Made up world

What is this thing called cancer. No one likes it and so why don't we just get rid of it. Sometimes I wonder if it is made up and the next time I wake up, no one will have it.

It was this thought that made me realize that most of the world we live in is made up. It's things like cancer that make you step back and see the world differently. All of the things that were so important and necessary vanish. It seems as though life was a lie or at least everything everyone tells you you should know about life. Before cancer, or any life threatening illnesses for that matter, everything was so complex and the world had so many expectations for you.

You weren't human if you didn't know what happened in last weeks modern family episode and you couldn't fit in if you didn't know that one Office episode when Jim formed an alliance with Dwight or when The Office went on a field trip to Gettysburg.

Bad days were days that it took 5 minutes to find a parking spot or someone was driving slow and you couldn't pass them. Good days were when BYU won their football game or when your team was actual prepared for class.

It is interesting what the lens of cancer gives on your perspective of life. Few things matter any more. It frees you up in many ways. You stop caring about traditions and culture and you focus on what matters most, people.

Don't get me wrong, The Office is still a hilarious show and it is always a good day when BYU wins but now the pressure is gone. Have to's are now nice to's and life is a time of contemplation rather than check list of demands.

Top 3 of CES

This last week I went to CES, Consumer Electronic Show, and thought I would share what I thought was "best of show"....

1st place goes to...LG's OLED 3D TV. Okay, any TV that is 4 mm thick is going to be cool but it goes beyond cool. The TV is not just thin but that it is bar-none the best 3D TV that I have ever seen. For a TV manufacturer that started by selling OEM TV's, they are killing everyone else.

2nd place goes to.... 3D printing. If 3D TV is number one then number 2 has to have something to do with 3D, who knew it would be 3D printing. I know this technology is not new but it was new to me. It is insanely simple and looked like someone made it out of their garage. Even though it was simple, it was impressive.

3rd place goes to.... Sony Ericsson's beta wireless headphones. This isn't your typical wireless technology (Bluetooth, etc.). This invention uses your body as a means of transporting a signal from the device, a phone or ipod, to the headphones. The product is still in the development phase and doesn't actually have a prototype but the demo was impressive and caught my interest. It would be cool if they can pull it off but who knows, it might cause cancer!

4th place goes to.... all of the car manufacturers. This might sound random but after looking at my pictures, all I had were pictures of cars. My background in automotive is probably the reason for my fascination but with so many photos, it must mean that the cars had to at least be in the running.
